No. On FBS3 cars (W203, W211, W212, late W220, early W221) the key data is held in the EIS, so the ignition switch alone is enough.
My key will not turn and the car will not crank — what is that?
Usually a failed electronic steering lock (ESL / ELV), which is common on FBS3 Mercedes. We fit an emulator — £100 alongside a key job or £180 standalone.
Will my existing keys still work?
Yes. Adding a key does not wipe your current keys.
