Diagnostics / Topology
Advanced Diagnostics from £80
Manufacturer-level fault-code reading, advanced DTC deletion that generic OBD2 dongles cannot touch, and a full topology tree view of every active and inactive module — mobile across Wolverhampton and the West Midlands.
Live example
Vehicle topology — tree view
Clutch adaptation at limit — stored fault with freeze-frame data.
Tap any module. On a real job this map is generated from your car, so a missing module or dead branch is visible in seconds instead of being chased by guesswork.
Overview
Most 'diagnostics' is a generic dongle plugged into the engine ECU, reading the handful of emissions codes the law requires manufacturers to publish. That is a fraction of what a modern car stores. We connect with manufacturer-level equipment that authenticates to every module on the vehicle — engine, transmission, ABS, SRS, gateway, body, comfort, driver assistance, infotainment and high-voltage systems — and read the complete fault memory: current, historic and permanent codes, freeze-frame data, adaptation values and counters. First we build a topology map: a tree diagram of every network branch showing which modules answer and which are silent, so a missing module, a coding mismatch or a broken bus is visible in seconds. Then we prove the cause with live data and pinpoint testing before anything is replaced. Once the fault is fixed we clear the codes properly — including the stubborn permanent and shadow entries a dongle can never delete — and re-scan to confirm the vehicle is clean.
What's included
- Full topology / tree-view module map
- Active vs inactive module identification
- All-module fault-code read (not just P-codes)
- Manufacturer-specific DTCs & sub-faults
- Advanced / permanent DTC deletion
- Historic & shadow fault memory clearing
- Freeze-frame & live-data logging
- Actuator & component tests
- CAN / LIN / FlexRay bus checks
- Coding, adaptations & calibrations
- Battery registration & service resets
- Written report with next steps
Step-by-step
- Step 1Topology scan
We map every module on every bus from the gateway down and mark which are active and which are silent.
- Step 2Deep fault-code read
Current, historic and permanent DTCs pulled from all modules — including codes generic dongles cannot access.
- Step 3Live data & logging
PIDs, actuator tests and CAN traffic recorded while the fault is present to prove root cause, not symptoms.
- Step 4Pinpoint testing
Wiring diagrams, pin-out checks, voltage-drop and resistance testing on the branch the topology map flagged.
- Step 5Repair, code or clear
Adaptations, coding, calibrations or advanced DTC deletion completed and verified — then re-scanned clean.
- Step 6Written report
Module list, codes, readings, what was ruled out, and the recommended next step with pricing.

Frequently asked questions
How much is an advanced diagnostic visit?
Mobile advanced diagnostics start from £80. That covers a full all-module scan, topology map, fault-code report and an explanation of what the codes actually mean. Deeper live-data testing, wiring tracing and coding are quoted on top once we know the fault.
Why can't my generic OBD2 dongle read these faults?
A generic dongle only speaks the legislated emissions layer (mode 01–0A) on the engine ECU. Manufacturer faults in ABS, SRS, gateway, transmission, body, comfort and infotainment modules use proprietary protocols and security access. We use manufacturer-level tools that authenticate to each module and read the full DTC memory, not just the generic P-codes.
Can you delete fault codes a dongle can't clear?
Yes — soft-coded and permanent DTCs, historic-memory entries, crash data on restraint modules, adaptation counters and shadow faults stored in the gateway. We only clear a code after the underlying cause is identified, and we log what was cleared.
What is a topology or tree view?
It is a live map of every control module on your vehicle's networks, drawn as a tree from the gateway down each bus. Modules that answer are shown active, modules that don't are shown inactive — so a dead branch, a missing module or a bus break shows up immediately instead of being guessed at.
Do you provide a written report?
Every session ends with a written report: module list, fault codes with descriptions, freeze-frame data, live-data readings, what we ruled out and the recommended next step with a price.
Do you work on hybrids and EVs?
Yes — high-voltage battery management, inverter, charging module and thermal-system faults are read and reported. Any high-voltage physical work is quoted separately with the appropriate safety procedures.
Can you diagnose an intermittent fault?
That is exactly what live-data logging is for. We record CAN traffic and sensor values while the fault occurs, so an intermittent dropout is captured as evidence rather than chased on a hunch.
Do you work for garages?
Yes. Trade-rate diagnostic support for workshops across Wolverhampton and the West Midlands — we scan, pinpoint and hand you the repair, or carry out the coding for you.
