What Are Pops & Bangs?
Pops and bangs — also known as crackle maps or overrun burble — are a type of ECU calibration designed to create explosive exhaust sounds during deceleration. Instead of shutting fuel off completely when you lift off the throttle, the ECU allows a controlled amount of unburnt fuel to enter the exhaust system. That fuel ignites inside the exhaust, producing:

Sharp bangs
Deep burble noises
This effect is achieved by adjusting ignition timing, fuelling, and overrun parameters. It is a sound‑only modification. Pops and bangs do not increase horsepower, torque or performance. They simply change the character of the exhaust note.
